De hond van Morris oma heet niet toevallig Houdini. Het dier is een meester in ontsnappen. Morris moet de berg bij oma’s huis op om de hond te zoeken. Maar net als hij met de hond in zijn armen aan de tocht naar huis begint, valt de sneeuw met bakken uit de lucht. Van het ene op het andere moment staat de jongen er enkeldiep in. Boven op de berg snijdt de noorderwind. Het dal lijkt erg ver weg. Tot overmaat van ramp doet Houdini nog eens wat ze het liefste doet: ervandoor gaan.
Morris weet zich even geen raad. Maar dan verschijnt in al dat wit ineens een lotgenoot — een jongen met een grote mond, met naast zich een reusachtige ram.
