De Franciacorta is de Italiaanse tegenhanger van de Franse mousserende wijnen. Het Franciacorta gebied is gelegen in de provicie Brescia.

De producenten in deze regio slaagden erin, door enorm te investeren, Franciacorta op de kaart te zetten als één van de beste mousserende wijnen ter wereld. In 1995 werd dit streven 'bekroond' met de DOCG-status.
Deze DOCG geldt uitsluitend voor de mousserende wijnen, waarbij een rijping op fles verplicht werd gesteld van tenminste 25 maanden. Franciacorta Riserva moet zelfs 37 maanden op de gistcellen rijpen voor de wijn kan worden uitgebracht.
Deze wijn is schitterend goudgeel van kleur met een mooie mousse vol met heerlijke tintelende bubbels. Het bouquet van deze wijn is vol met duidelijk te onderscheiden aroma's van perzik, appel en een hint van gist en toast. De smaak is fris, fruitig met een mooie gebalanceerde afdronk.
