De mango is zoet, zeer sappig en aromatisch. De smaak doet vaag denken aan perzik en abrikoos. Mango combineert goed met kaas, met andere vruchten in een salade of nagerecht, of als chutney bij vis- en vleesgerechten. Ook smoothies en shakes met mango zijn erg lekker. De rijpheid van de mango is niet aan de kleur (groen-geel, geel-oranje, oranje-rood) af te lezen. Een mango is rijp wanneer hij lekker ruikt en wanneer het vruchtvlees meegeeft als je er licht op drukt. Om de mango nog extra te laten rijpen bewaar je ze het beste bij kamertemperatuur.
