Lampje is de dochter van de vuurtorenwachter. Ze klimt elke avond naar boven om de grote lamp van de vuurtoren aan te steken. Op een stormachtige avond zijn de lucifers op. Lampje trotseert de storm om nieuwe te halen, maar het lukt haar niet om de lamp aan te krijgen. Een schip vergaat voor de kust. De politie komt bij haar vader langs. Terwijl haar vader huisarrest in de vuurtoren krijgt, moet Lampje werken om de schuld van het vergane schip af te lossen. Ze komt in een wat afgelegen huis terecht met bijzondere bewoners. Daar ontmoet ze een jongen met gouden ogen en een vissenstaart.
Het verhaal is sprookjesachtig en geloofwaardig, aangrijpend en hoopvol, met een vleugje Andersen en een snippertje Monty Python. Een groots en rijk, in mooie, poëtische zinnen opgeschreven verhaal waar kinderen en andere mensen met verbeeldingskracht met volle teugen van zullen genieten!
