Om bijenbrood te maken, verzamelen werkbijen stuifmeel van bloemen en mengen dit met nectar of honing. Ze voegen enzymen toe aan het mengsel en slaan het op in cellen van de raat. Vervolgens wordt het mengsel enkele dagen gegist, waardoor de stuifmeelkorrels worden afgebroken en de biologische beschikbaarheid van de voedingsstoffen toeneemt.
Smaak
Bijenbrood heeft vaak een milde en zoetzure smaak.
Textuur
Het bijenbrood van Toros daği heeft een harde textuur.
Hoe is de bijenbrood te gebruiken/ te eten?
Het wordt aanbevolen om dagelijks een theelepel bijenbrood in te nemen. Je kan bijebrood direct consumeren, maar kan het ook mengen met eten als een honing, of bijvoorbeeld ook yoghurt.
Houdbaarheid
Honing heeft eigenlijk geen houdbaarheidsdatum, maar de smaak kan met de tijd vervagen. De honing kan daarom het beste binnen twee jaar geconsumeerd worden.
