Naast de Nebbiolo en de Dolcetto, is de Barbera de derde druif van de Piemonte. De Barbera heeft veel minder tannines dan de Nebbiolo druif, maar compenseert dat door een goede zuurgraad. Daardoor ontstaat een stevige wijn met een intense geur van rood fruit, kersen en pruimen, met een achtergrond van specerijen. Zeer gebalanceerd. Drink deze wijn bij ravioli en pompoen.
